Since the summer has long passed and it is also the beginning of the winter season in India.
Hence, Jaisalmer in October desert is much more cooler to visit, explore various famous places, do desert camping, adventurous sports, and have fun in general.
This said, I would recommend, if possible, rather than visiting Jaislamer in October visit it in November to mid-March, since that will be the most ideal because of less heat, whether you are a foreigner or an Indian.
If not possible, then try to book your trip to Jaisalmer in late October for the best conditions.

Since the temperature drops considerably at night and it becomes cold, it is advisable to pack some warm layers/blankets even though your camp/hotel will provide some.
When is the off-season in Jaisalmer?
The off-season in Jaisalmer is from April to August due to the high heat of summer.
While there are fewer crowds or tourists, the pros are that you may get cheaper accommodations, more suitable for a budget traveller or someone who wants to have a quieter experience of this desert.
Please note that due to summer heat or monsoon, your travels or sightseeing may get uncomfortable.
How to reach Jaisalmer?
There are many ways to reach Jaisalmer-
By Train, you can reach Jaisalmer Railway Station (JSM), which is very close to the city center, which itself is located close to the major attractions you may wanna visit.
By Air, you can take flights to Jaisalmer Airport, although limited flights go there. The next best option would be Jodhpur Airport (which is located 285 km away (approx. 5–6 hour drive)).
By Road–
Bus: RSRTC (Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation) operates daily AC buses from Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Bikaner.
Car/Taxi: A scenic drive from Jodhpur (approx. 4.5-5 hours) or Jaipur (approx. 9 hours) is available.

2-3 days is generally considered enough for exploring.
Though that said, I would strongly urge that you make your itinerary for no less than 3 days (excluding time to reach there) to visit Jaisalmer in October, since this will give you a much more relaxed and fulfilling experience.
When I visited Jaisalmer last, we were there for 3 days, and it still got a little bit tiresome with reaching and coming back with all the places to explore in between.
Plus, it will give you much more time to explore this historically and culturally rich city, much more joyfully and peacefully.
If you are coming to this far western edge of this country, take it slow, since that will give a much more enriching experience and memorable stories.

Since it is near the border post it will require a permit from the BSF and that may take some time especially if there are many tourists.
Remember to keep this spot and the Longewala war memorial on a completely separate day since it will take the whole day.
